Parents decide to sell gold to help their son

I know a guy who has always been very indecisive. Whenever he has a decision to make, he spends days, weeks or even months thinking and rethinking his options over and over again, and finally chooses an option which turns out to be the worst possible. I guess it might be so because he usually listens to other people and not to himself. Anyway, when he was eighteen years old, he could not decide where to start his studies. He could stay in his hometown and go on living with his parents or move to a city situated two hundred kilometres away. His parents persuaded him to choose the bigger university in the city. They even decided to sell gold bullion bars that they had been keeping in their safe. They paid for all necessary things so that their son would not have to worry about anything. Jack finally moved out of his parents" house and started a new life on his own. His studies turned out to be not as interesting as he had thought. The lectures we boring and he did not feel like going to the classes. He started skipping them more and more often. At the end of the semester, it turned out he was far behind other students. He failed all his exams. His parents were angry at him because they had decided to sell gold which was worth a lot of money and he wasted it all.
